Welfare Scheme (Sickness and Accident Scheme)

Welfare Scheme

Introduction

The scheme is designed to benefit its members at a time when they would most require financial support.

The scheme is very simple in its operation. As a member, you will have the support of your colleagues to give you an income of up to £250*. Your only commitment would be to give your support if any other member of the scheme makes a claim. A 4 week qualification period will apply to new members before claim entitlement.

Unlike other similar schemes run by insurance companies, no member of the scheme makes any contribution on a regular basis. Your only commitment to the scheme is to pay up to a maximum of the Association agreed amount per week*(numbers may differ dependent on membership numbers and payout), for a maximum of six weeks per claim.

The scheme only pays out if a member cannot work for a period of longer than two weeks. In the case of short-term illness, the member must make their own provisions for income.

In recent years, only a few claims have been made within the Highlands and Islands Driving Instructor Association . In all cases, claimants have peace of mind that they have some sort of income at such a difficult time.

The Scheme will never pay any member for more than six weeks (the maximum claim period). By joining the scheme, you will never be asked for more than the Association agreed amount, per week. In the event that there is more than one claim at any one time, your commitment will still only be a maximum of the Association agreed amount per week until all claims are settled. For example, if two claims arise at time same time and one claimant requires payment for five weeks and the other claimant requires payment for three weeks, you will be required to pay a maximum of £8.00 per week for eight weeks to satisfy both claims. Dependent upon the number of members in the scheme, you may be asked to pay less.

Never thought I would need to make use of the sickness scheme as I always work through any illness. But unexpectedly had to go in to hospital for surgery, several weeks off work was a nightmare stuck at home. Thankfully I had joined the sickness scheme as it paid my car payments and helped towards food on the table. So much easier to focus on getting well when I’m not having to worry about no money coming in.

Would highly recommend you take a look at the scheme and sign up.

I joined the HIDIA Sickness and Accident scheme as soon as it was possible seeing it as a very useful addition to our organisations support, especially as I'd had 7 weeks off due to a hip replacement the previous year with no driving instructor income. I then had my other hip replaced which resulted in 7 weeks of being unable to work again. The scheme  was very helpful as it helped pay for my car payments easing my  financial situation. Great result!
